The key to the Hobbs Park Memorial project was the viability of picking up and moving what turned out to be a 180-ton load of ancient, fractured limestone and powdery burgandy brick. The project's original contracting consultant called the old house a "train wreck." The intention of moving such a heavy yet delicate structure was met by disbelief and out-right ridicule. But KU Professor of Architecture, Dan Rockhill, and house mover, Delores Richman did the job—on time, and over budget!
